Why aren't wireless tow lights from different manufacturers compatible | TowBrite

Frequently customers inquire if TowBrite transmitters or tow lights are compatible with those from TowMate or Lite-It.  The fast and quick answer is no, but why?

Unlike standard protocols such as BlueTooth and Wifi, tow lights all use proprietary protocols.  Our wireless tow lights operate in the sub-ghz range, far below the 2.4ghz and 5ghz where you'll find common wireless protocols.  The reason is because we need to prioritize range over data speed.  In reality, we're just transmitting very small amounts of data, left turn signal, right turn signal, brake signal and backup signal, not video or even text.  

As there are no standards and wireless tow bar manufacturers aren't super friendly with each other, there is no incentive or reason to work towards cross compatibility.
